About this event

In conjunction with the Fourth Annual TEQSA Conference, the TEQSA Student Expert Advisory Group will host a pre-conference workshop for students, titled “A Student-Centred Approach to Academic Integrity”. The workshop will enable students to:

  • Advocate in a powerful and passionate way for academic integrity at their home institutions
  • Communicate the serious implications of contract cheating to senior leaders, academic staff, and fellow students.
  • Contribute to the creation of effective and efficient solutions to the problem of contract cheating at their home institutions
  • Contribute to national and international communities of practice that can work together to address contract cheating.

The workshop will be facilitated by Associate Professor Cath Ellis (UNSW Sydney) and Associate Professor Wendy Sutherland-Smith (Deakin University).

Light refreshments will be provided.

Facilitator Biographies:

Associate Professor Cath Ellis is the Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UNSW, Sydney. Previously she worked at the University of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, UK and the University of Wollongong in Australia. While her background is in Australian and Postcolonial Literature, her current research is in the area of academic integrity with a particular interest in contract cheating.

Associate Professor Wendy Sutherland-Smith is the Chair of the Academic Integrity Committee in the Faculty of Health and Research Fellow in CRADLE at Deakin University, Victoria. She has a background in Law and Education and has researched and published widely on integrity issues such as plagiarism and collusion since 1991. She has been recently researching contract cheating and co-authored a number of publications with Phillip Dawson on this topic.
